Community Service – National Young Reader’s Day
In celebration of National Young Readers Day, which was established to remind students of the benefits and rewards of reading, The Prince William County Bar Association purchases books to donate to all public elementary school libraries in Prince William County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park and sends volunteer attorneys to visit the classrooms to read these books to the students.
Book selections are age-appropriate to complement the American Bar Association Law Day theme for the particular year. Such purchases have included, Arthur Meets the President written by Marc Brown, A More Perfect Union: The Story of our Constitution written by Betsy and Giulio Maestro and The New Big Book of U.S. Presidents written by Marc Frey and Todd Davis. Volunteers from the PWC Bar not only read these books to the students, but also lead them in a discussion to build on the message carried in the book.
Book purchases are made possible by a generous grant from the Prince William County Bar Foundation.
